#WeAreDyingHere is a compelling short film that confronts the relentless violence endured by women in South Africa. At once disquieting and unflinching, it follows three women who recite a searing indictment of gender-based violence, positioning themselves as soldiers in a war for survival.

The film moves between still, haunting scenes—where the chorus delivers verse with piercing urgency—and fiery, fast-paced imagery that creates an apocalyptic mise-en-scène from which there seems to be no escape. Even the hashtag in its title raises questions about the role of social media: is it a tool for awareness, or does it amplify the cycle of violence?

Executive Produced by Siya and Rachel Kolisi in partnership with the Kolisi Foundation, the 25-minute film is adapted from the acclaimed stage production of the same name. #WeAreDyingHere chronicles the inner and outer journeys of three women navigating a war they never chose. Amid harassment, abuse, rape, and femicide, they search for moments of solace and ways to process their trauma under the unrelenting shadow of threat.

This is not just a film—it is a necessary pause, a collective exhale, and an unfiltered insight into the lived reality of being a woman in South Africa today.
